Dog Years by Kaye Blegvad
Depression is like owning a bad dog. This is a book about learning to live with that dog, training it, making peace with it, and realizing you aren't alone.
The story starts in infancy, goes through teenage years (where the dog really sinks its teeth in), and into adulthood, where years of training have begun to pay off. It addresses the frequent connection between artists and mental health, and the effect depression can have on creative work, as well as on relationships and your own self identity. It's a book about surviving.
Limited Quanity Available: I was so fortunate to score some of these books before the author, Kaye Blegvad, had her stock shipped back to her in the UK. This is my favourite book about depression; and I recommend it to anyone who is struggling to find connection and/or support themselves or for anyone who is trying to better understand a friend or loved one who is going through it.
